課程概述

Occupational Health Management (OHM) is an emerging interdisciplinary subject. As a field of study, OHM builds its systematic knowledge mainly upon psychological theories and research, while integrating contributions from other related disciplines, such as management, industrial hygiene, medicine/nursing, epidemiology, ergonomics, to promote health and safety in the work place. Understanding the human experiences of work stress and combating its adverse effects on the individual, the organization, and the society, has been a main focus of OHM research and practical interventions. More recently, other issues are attracting increasing attention, such as work-family balance, and the changing labor force. It is hoped that students will have a fair grasp of the state-of-art in OHM, especially theories, research, and interventions related to work stress. With such knowledge, students will be able to contribute to the ultimate course of creating a healthy work place and advancing our knowledge on related issues.

1.Appreciate the importance and implications of Occupational Health Management.
2.Learn concepts, theories, and interventions of work stress.
3.Learn to apply the systematic knowledge of Occupational Health Management at work.
 
課程要求
1.Attend every class and actively participate in classroom activities.
2.Form your work team (no more than 3 persons) and contribute constructively to the team project. Through Session 3 to Session 16, one designated work team (the Presenting Group) would prepare assigned reading materials (textbook chapters or journal papers) and present them in detail to the class. Another designated work team (the Critique Group) would raise questions and comments for clarification and discussion. Both teams would be responsible for organizing and facilitating class discussion.
3.Complete assignments in time.

Use materials from the 4-week stress diary to reflect on your own stress pattern: what are your primary sources of stress? What is your habitual way of dealing with stress? What are the typical outcomes/consequences of your stress experiences? Discuss your personal strengths and weaknesses in relation to stress coping. (no less than 500 words)
